A simple yet powerful way to plan and manage your stories

  • Track your story elements.
  • Build your outline.
  • Manage your progress.

Manuscripts meet version control in a tool that helps you build your story from the ground up. Define your story elements, then connect them to each other and your story. Actually write the story, from within the same app. All while saving progress in a way that lets you roll back to any previous save point.

Track Your Story Elements

With Story Elements, you can list and manage your characters, groups/organizations, locations in the world(s), important events, and special items. Not only can you track names and descriptions, but also ages, genders, ethnicities, motivations, weaknesses, strengths, and really anything you can think of. Then, tie these elements together by both relationship and time, helping you remember and track how everything comes together both during the story and beyond it.

Build Your Outine

Use the Snowflake Method, created by Randy Ingermanson, to gradually build your story up from an Elevator Pitch to a full outline. Or, skip the Method, and fill the synopses and scenes yourself in whatever order you prefer. Use Backstory Prompts1 to establish relationships between Story Elements and the overall timeline, or build those relationships manually for tighter control. Use the Timelines feature to see how things play out relative to the Scenes, or from the perspective of any Story Element. Time travel stories and flashbacks have never been easier to work with! And when your outline is ready, start writing without even leaving the app.

Manage Your Progress

If you're using the Snowflake Method, track your progress through building out your outline, as well as actually writing the story. Any time the Editor is visible, you can see your current word count and judge how much you've written. Always be informed about your progress from idea to manuscript.

Free Forever

We'll never charge you for access to the app or its core features!

That said, some features (like some of the Backstory Prompts) are built from the work and intellectual property of others. We can't (legally) offer these for free, so you will have to pay a small fee to gain access. But these licensed features are never fully locked - you can always "roll your own" and enjoy the core functionality they offer entirely free. Forever.
